Space Race Brittany+Carissa

Paragraph 1.

CARISSA-Why did we engage in the Space Race? Was it a good idea, or waste of Resources?

The Space Race was almost like who made more accomplishments in space. We engaged in the Space Race because we were competing in a global struggle against totaliarian communismn. Totaliarian communism means that the government controls every aspect of lives. Was it a good idea, or waste of resources is another question. We used a lot of resources to get into space, there were some major things that happened. A good thing is that we ended up making it to the Moon, which is a major accomplishment. The Soviet Union was the first to launch a satellite, with the US not far behind. Yes, it was a good thing we made it to the moon, and we ended up winning the Space Race, but we could have used the money for other things other than using it to try and be the superior country.
BRITTNEY- I think the next big thing we should for focus on is to try to figure out how to communacate with animals. I mean some how we could put on a helmet and thy're sound would go in then it would tranlate it into a language we could understand. How cool would that be, being able to to listen and understand what they are saying to us. I think that would change the animal's way of life and the role they play on Earth. They would have have a say on what we do to they're envirorment.

JFK Letter.

Dear Gram,
On the day of November 22, 1963 a wonderful man named John F. Kennedy was assasinated. He was shot three times and was pronounced dead. What did you think of the murder? Did you have any more questions after everything was said and done? It was a lone gunman who did, though he was also killed. What really made you suprised about it? Were you surprised that it was only one person? Do you think the ''lone gunman'' had a reason to do it? I'd really like to hear your opinions on this. This information is really interesting to me. I am awaiting your response.
I love you.
Carissa

Exam #2 Essay Questions

1. In this essay, please dicuss the WoT from it's origin to the current debate on it's future.

The origin of the War on Terror is Afghanistan. This is where everything started up. I believe this is the origin of the War on Terror because this is where Bin Ladden planned to make the attacks on America which is what really started the war up. After Bin Ladden accomplished the 9/11 attacks America needed to strike back with something so that we could eventually end the war.

A month later in October the War in Afghanistan officially started. And we fought there for about two years, until 2003 when the war in Iraq started. Also in late 2003 Saddam Hussein was captured. A year later in 2004 we started the war with Pakistan. In 2006 we finally execute Saddam. So in 2008 we are still fighting a war that started 7 years ago. We haven't really gotten anywhere with it at all. We've killed a lot of innocent Men, Women and Children, and they have killed thousand American Soldiers.

This war seems like it is never going to end. It has been drawn on for way to long and it's time that we do something drastic to make it end. All we've done is got into a mess that we can't get out of.

Question 2.

The best president out of the three was Bill Clinton. His major accomplishments were creating over 6 million jobs for the unemployed. He had an awesome accomplishment called the Brady Bill which made it so that when you bought a gun, you had to wait 5 days for it, so they could do a proper background check. Also he did the Crime Bill which added 10,000 police officers to the streets. He made the economy better by making fed. employees pay child support on time. The accomplishments go on and on.

The other two really didn't do as well as he did. George H. W. Bush had one Major Accomplishment which was START which made it so that their wasn't a buildup of Large Armed guns. George Bush really didn't have any accomplishments worth mentioning. With Bill Clinton the list was endless. The Bush's really didn't do much for our country.

I chose Bill Clinto because he really helped our Country. He had many accomplisments that helped not hurt the country. I based my decision on what they did for the country. Thats why I chose Bill Clinton.

Book Portfolio

Flags Of Our Fathers
James Bradley
Ron Powers
Flags Of Our Fathers is the story of the war on the small Japanese island of Iwo Jima. The story takes place on Iwo Jima, and there are five special soldiers. The six soldiers in the middle of the story raised the second flag on the top of Mt. Suribachi. Not many people know that two flags were raised not only one. 6 Strong-willed and determined soldiers raised the second flag and they were John Bradley, Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block, Ira Hayes, Rene Gagnon, and Mike Strank They all joined the military at very young ages, the oldest Mike Strank being 24. They all saw and fought through the horrible war on Iwo Jima.
Iwo Jima is a very small Japanese island. It only takes about 5and a half minutes to drive across it at 60mph. One of the bloodiest battles in WWII was fought on Iwo Jima. When the soldiers arrived at the island they were full on attacked from all sides. It was like committing suicide for them to run onto that island. Approximately 1400 boys landed on the island of Iwo Jima. 288 Replacements came into the battle also making it the total of 1688.You know how many walked off the island? 177, that’s it. More than 1400 boys killed. After the war 353 Soldiers were awarded the medal of honor.
So what happens in the book is we are introduced to the six soldiers. Then it moves on to them going on to the island. It then talks about D-Day one and how many losses they suffered and then moves on to the other three D-Days. The best part in the book was when it gave a description of the boys raising the flag. Somehow, I could just picture what was running through their minds. They didn’t think that they were doing anything out of the ordinary, they were just following orders. Well, they surely got recognized for it. The book then moves on to talk about what happened when they got home. One former soldier, John Bradley, stood by his belief that he wasn’t a hero at all, he just did what he was told.
All in all, I thought the book was good in the beginning and then it got very dull. I thought that the author did a good job of incorporating history into the whole thing. The history in the book was all about WWII. It talked about all the struggles they faced, the soldiers they lost, and the lifelong friendships they had made.

Test Essays

Why did the Articles of Confederation fail "as our first" constitution? What was the goal of the founding fathers during the Constitutional Convention of 1787? What major obstacles were overcome? Why was a Bill of Rights added?
The Articles of Confederation failed as our first constitution because, we didn't have a strong central government. If we didn't have George Washington than something such as the Whiskey Rebellion would have turned into a major problem, and George Washington wouldn't have been there to stop it.
